Crime Prevention Activities - Street Patrols, Gang Prevention, Outreach and

Advocacy

Activities support Goal 1: To recruit men to serve as role models.

Street Patrols

Night Street Patrols are the hallmark activity of the organization and the primary method

of addressing street crime and ensuring community safety. MAD DADS trains its

volunteers, in cooperation with local law enforcement to walk through at-risk

communities, targeting young men and women involved in gangs, drugs, or committing

livability crimes. MAD DADS’ street patrols provide a positive physical presence and a

deterrent to crime. During routine patrols, volunteers make contact with individuals inviting

them to attend empowerment groups that collaborate on setting life-improvement goals

(related to education, vocation, relationships/family, substance abuse problems, or

other issues), and access to MAD DADS’ network of referral partners for their help in

addressing these issues.

Youth Development Activities - Mentor Recruitment, Leadership Development,

Community Service and Learning and School Prevention/Intervention

Support

Activities support Goal 2: Influence youth in ways that ensure healthy development.

MAD DADS provides a rich set of alternatives to a life of poverty, crime, and incarceration

for community youth.

Mentor Recruitment

Develop a “CARE” (Children Are Reasons for Excellence) program to focus on recruiting

and properly training community adults to mentor at-risk youth. Increasing the number

of quality adult mentors ensures there is a trusted adult in the life of every young person.

Leadership Development

MAD DADS provides Leadership Development Training to staff, participants, and youth in

an attempt to develop dedicated community leaders. Topics range from grief and trauma,

money management, parenting, family reconciliation and hope and healing. In addition

to these opportunities, MAD DADS shall coordinate a teen leadership council that will

host its annual conference.

Community Service and Learning

Community service and learning opportunities will be made available to parents, college

students, and youth. Specific community service learning activities target youth

re-entering the community after incarceration. This is done in cooperation with the

Pinellas County School System to provide opportunity to give back.

School Prevention & Intervention Support

To empower students by encouraging them to remain in school, make positive life

changes, good career decisions and to work for the betterment of their communities.

Civic Engagement

Encourage youth participation in civic affairs (voter registration, city  commission, council

meeting, budget hearings, etc.).

Men’s Empowerment Activities - Fathering Program and Incarcerated Males

Activities support Goal 3: Provide positive male role models.

MAD DADS is committed to reversing negative community practices and behaviors by

recruiting men to serve as role models working to restore, stabilize, and reunify families

impacted by social disorder.

Fathering Program

MAD DADS, in partnership with local agencies, will assemble “empowerment” support

groups comprised of community men, women, and youth. Through empowerment support

groups, MAD DADS will    engage employment service programs, treatment facilities,

medical services, community colleges, halfway houses, and not-for profit organizations,

such as mental health clinics, dental labs, and healing sessions.

Community Building Activities - Crisis Response, Community Events and “Street

Talk”

Activities support Goal 4: To provide leadership and coordinate collaborative efforts among community

members and leaders.

Organize vigils, and memorials in times of crisis and conversely, celebrations for joyful

happenings providing a forum for discussion and constructive action for  concerned

citizens.
