Bill Cosby... Michael Jordan... Brad Pitt... President Clinton... Jackie Joyner-Kersee... Martin Sheen... Neil Diamond... Denzel Washington and Aaron McGlon. What do all of these people, and millions more throughout America, have in common? They are all alumni of Boys & Girls Clubs.
Aaron McGlon, MS
Martin Luther King said, “If a man hasn't discovered something that he will die for, he isn't fit to live.”
Whether to die for or to simply assume its highest position of responsibility, Aaron has, as CEO, begun to manage the business of implementing the most important of CEO CREDENTIALS, the application of WISDOM towards perpetrating the mission that remains the core objective of MAD DADS of Pinellas County.
There was a time, not so long ago, when Aaron adorned the cap and gown, as a proud graduate of Springfield College. A Bachelors of Science degree in Human Services with concentration in Community Youth Development through Leadership in hand, he says he is amazed that soon after he was to enroll in and completed the Masters program at Springfield College in Tampa, FL. Nonetheless, Aaron remains humbled but proud to have added, in 2011, a Master's Degree in Organizational Management and Leadership to his academic resume.
Reflecting on personal, professional and academic achievement, it seems as though his journey, fueled by human and spiritual passion, is destined to persist forever.
Foremost and without question, Aaron strives to be a good husband, father, son, brother and friend. Who, when at such a young age thinks about legacies? As Aaron said to me, "I wanted then and still live everyday placing the legacy-blocks one atop the other and aside the next to know that when I leave this life I did good for my family, my church, and my community – and for as many kids as I can touch, see, and envision. I want all to experience the pride I have come to cherish so affectionately."
“The benefits of giving shall be as generous as or greater than that which is given” - Arnold Sherr
Indeed there is wisdom abound, that his goals to give back – reciprocating for favors of life that can never be fully repaid have been adequately achieved. There are so many to thank, humanly and spiritually. If Aaron has touched the hand of only one child that prevails, he said with passion in his eyes, "I am at peace in that knowing."
With respect and admiration, he credits his boss and mentor at The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Suncoast, Carl Lavender, for encouraging him to pursue academia, earn his degrees and use them proudly to give back for that which God and society has given to him.
Aaron further declared, "I am extremely fortunate to have been in a position that someone would foster interest in me both personally and professionally."
Earning a Masters degree from Springfield College is for sure another in a series of well-built stepping-stones. As Interim CEO for the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Suncoast, he oversaw the day-to-day operations for its eleven clubs, 5,500 youthful members while managing a $2.4 MM annual budget. Aaron is convinced that his 24-year evolution from a child BGCA member to a dedicated "C" level leader is God's plan. That he is on this earth to make a positive difference in the lives and the futures of minority and economically depressed youth, whose boundaries defined by poverty, negative environmental influence, gangs and illegal substance, better.
Few can say with sincerity that of everyday, there is a blessing to cherish, and to its fullest there is. Like Andre Agassi, Magic Johnson, Denzel Washington and others like them, Aaron McGlon sees his work as a love of life in the very same way others view their most adored of hobbies. The rewards of his exhilarating journey are a loving wife and children; captivating home, friends and extended family, and pride of knowing that every moment of every day is dedicated to making a difference for the better in the lives of so many kids, needy or not!
